From 9 a.m. to4 p.m. Saturday, volunteers, families, staff, and residents will clear the remaining debris at Lake Prince Retirement Center so the trails may be reopened to the community.

These volunteers will include people from local churches, Boy Scout troops and community groups.

Lake Prince Center staff and tree crews have already removed many of the more than 100 trees felled by Hurricane Isabel. However, dozens more remain on the 172-acre retirement community’s walking trails that wind through the woods toward Lake Prince.

Celia Soper, vice president for administration, said residents are really grateful to have so much community support.

&uot;The day after the storm residents’ and staff’s families pitched right in to help,&uot; said Soper, &uot;and that giving spirit has just continued even after the lights came back on and life got back to normal.&uot;

Lake Prince Center serves all of Hampton Roads with apartments and cottages for active seniors, complemented by a Wellness Clinic and full spectrum of health services like assisted living, nursing care, and memory care.

Since its opening in July 2003, nearly 200 active seniors have moved into the spacious cottages and apartments and come from 45 different cities and 18 states. It represents a rich variety of interests, occupations and life experiences.
