Twenty-five wives of retired college professors from Old Dominion University, known as Town and Gown, visited Suffolk on Nov. 12. The women are best known for the civic work they perform each year in the Norfolk community. They women came into town via motor coach; the tour was organized by Barbara Pyle in cooperation with Angela Koncz of the Suffolk Department of Tourism.

The women began their day at the historic Prentis House, visited the Seaboard Train Station, Riddick’s Folly, Southern Gun Works Museum, and the Suffolk Museum. They dined on delicacies prepared by Fannie Gail, owner of The Front Street House Restaurant. From there the women were treated to the hospitality of Deme and Monica Panagopolous at the Gardener Store. Koncz lead the tour at the Prentis House and guided the women throughout the day. Betsy Brothers shared rail history, and Lee King entertained at the Folly. Richard Carroll showed the women how to operate antique rifles.
