Staff report

With 16 years experience as an emergency room doctor in Martinsville, Keith Nichols, M.D. became keenly aware of the problems of varicose veins. Having watched his patients suffer with the rashes, pain and

swelling caused by the ailment, Nichols began to research how problem veins were treated, known medically as the practice of Phlebology.

Now, more than a year after opening a Phlebology and facial aesthetic

medical practice in Martinsville, Nichols made the decision to bring his know-how to Hampton Roads. Nichols is pleased to announce the opening of Genesis Aesthetic Face and Vein Specialists, Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, in Harbour Breeze Professional Center, suite 100, Suffolk.

The treatment of varicose veins has changed dramatically in the past five years in the United States, but there are so few phlebologists (doctors who specialize in varicose veins)&uot; said Nichols.

&uot;At Genesis, we’re dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of our patients through treatment of varicose veins and spider veins, as well as facial and skin care treatments for Rosacea, melasma, sun and age spots, acne, scars and wrinkles,&uot; he continued. &uot;Using the safest, most advanced medical procedures and equipment available, our patients are treated in our office. They see the dramatic results they want without hospital stays or operating room fees.&uot;

Nichols, a board certified physician trained in laser, intense pulsed light, and vein therapy, and a member of the American College of Phlebology, will be assisted by his wife, Carolyn, an RN and BSN for over 20 years. She is trained in microdermabrasion, laser, intense pulsed light, duplex scanning, and vein therapy.

What makes this type of work so rewarding? Nichols reflected, &uot;You should see the smiles on my patients’ faces when their wrinkles seem to disappear and their dark spots fade away. I had one patient give me a gift with a note saying, &uot;Thank you for giving me back my lovely legs!&uot;
