Rodney Cornelius Overton, 52, of the 500 block of Turlington Road, Suffolk, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, in Obici Hospital.

Mr. Overton was born in Hertford County, N.C., a son of Curtis and Mabel Burden Overton of Ahoskie, N.C.

He was a member of Gaston Church of Christ and Faison’s Hunt Club.

Rodney was a supervisor with Dominion Virginia Power, a part-time police officer with the Gaston Police Department, and a Special Deputy with the Northampton County Sheriff’s Department.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Kathryn Mizelle Overton; a daughter, Nikki Overton Carlyle, and husband, Mike, of Louisville, Ky.; two sons, Rodney Brandon Hodges, and wife, Anna, and Christopher Holmes Hodges, and wife, Melissa, all of Greenville, N.C.; brothers, Sidney Overton of Charlottesville; Larry Overton of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and Keith Overton of Ahoskie; sisters, Pam Watson of Henderson, N.C.; Lori Feher of Ahoskie; Debbie Pickeral of Stafford; Lisa Adams of Chapel Hill, N.C.; a grandson, Jackson Hunter Carlyle; and mother and father-in-law, Ernest and Julia Mizelle of Rich Square, N.C.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Paul Ange, officiating.

Burial will follow in Ahoskie Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday prior to the service.
