Mary &uot;Louise&uot; Cowan Courtney, 94, of 121 Deborah Drive, Suffolk, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, Dec. 12, 2003.

Born in Bear Grass, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Winnie Virginia and Mack Gilbert Cowan. She was also predeceased by one daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy C. and Edward Hurley Brinkley; three sisters; and three brothers.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy C. and Tommy R. McCausley of Suffolk, five grandchildren, Patricia B. Sawyer of Mechanicsville; Teri C. Tillett of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; Morris Carr, Tony McCausley and Teresa McCausley, all of Suffolk; and 9 great-grandchildren, and her special friend and nurse, Celestine Blowe.

A member of First Baptist Church, she was well known for her beautiful quilts. She left all of her loved ones with quilts stitched with love. The family wants to thank Sentara Home Care.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15 in the Sidney F. Harrell Chapel of Harrell Funeral Home, Suffolk, by Dr. David Chauncey. Burial will follow in Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery.

Friends may join the family for visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. today in the funeral home, after the committal, and at the residence other times. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 237 N. Main St., Suffolk, Va. 23434.
