Barbara Moody Sutton, wife, adored mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, died peacefully Monday, Dec. 15, 2003.

Born on Aug. 20, 1927, in Suffolk on the old Carolina Highway, she spent her childhood with seven sisters and one brother.

As a young adult, Barbara was trained as a registered nurse. Soon after, she fell in love with a man who equaled her zest for life. His name was Clarence Sutton Jr. Their life together began March 7, 1952.

Their love brought them four sons: Clarence, Tommy, Bobby, and Martin.

There were many tales shared and remembered around her bedside the days before she passed on.

Barbara lived a full, rich life filled with music, a green thumb that she proudly displayed in her garden, and lots of laughter.

Her love of traveling and sense of adventure had no limits. She introduced many new words and expressions that our family will use forever.

Her unconditional love for her family and friends will be felt and remembered for lifetimes. There is a huge vacuum for those that loved her as Alzheimer’s robbed her of her words and abilities in recent years.

We are challenged to grieve and rejoice at her death while feeling blessed by her life. Our hearts are filled with memories we are so lucky to have as a family.

Barbara joins her awaiting husband, Clarence, her parents, George and Effie Moody, and two sisters, Louise Smith and Hazel Bartles in heaven.

Her surviving family includes: her sons and daughter-in-laws, Clarence Sutton III and Lisa, Tommy and Dena Sutton, all of Austin, Texas; Bobby and Charlotte Sutton, and Martin and RaNelle Sutton, all of Manchaca, Texas; her grandsons, Brandt Sutton, Willis Sutton, and Collin Sutton, all of Austin; and Eric Sutton of St. Ignatius, Mont.; sisters Anne Rountree, Shirley Underwood, Tommy Buchanan, and Jacqueline Shackelford of Suffolk; Isabel Wills of Windsor; a brother, Garland Moody of Suffolk; and numerous nephews, nieces, friends, and loved ones around the country.

The family would like to thank the staff of Arden Courts of Austin, Havenwood Care Giver Services – especially Cindia, Lone Star Hospice and Lucy Kasper for their compassionate, nurturing care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of your choice.

The family will receive visitors at noon Friday in Jack Rowe Funeral Home in League City, Texas, with services and graveside burial to follow at 1 p.m.
