Goodmans chosen as Farm Family of the Year

The Board of Directors and the agribusiness committee of the Suffolk division of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce announced Thursday that they have selected the family of Lawrence H. Goodman Sr. to be honored as the &uot;Outstanding Farm Family of the Year 2004.&uot;

Developed in 1978, the Farm Family of the Year award acknowledges the importance of agribusiness to the life and growth of Suffolk.

The Goodman family, whose 115-acre farm is located on Wildwood Drive in Suffolk’s Holy Neck borough, is the 26th family to receive the distinction of representing excellence in agriculture and family values.

Lawrence Goodman operates the farm with his two sons, C. Wayne Goodman and Lawrence H. Goodman Jr. both of Gates Road near Whaleyville.

The family will be honored at a luncheon at noon Jan. 20, 2004, in the Holiday Inn of Suffolk.

Mary Heinricht, CEO of &uot;Ag Prospects,&uot; will be the keynote speaker for the event, focusing on, &uot;Is Farming In Our Future?&uot;
