Help put Cheer Fund over the top

We are fortunate and grateful.

The News-Herald’s Cheer Fund surpassed the $33,000 level Wedneday, putting the $40,000 goal well within reach.

We cannot overstate how much the Cheer Fund means to so many children each year who benefit from it through Suffolk Toys for Tots. This year, more than 1,600 children in Suffolk received quality toys under their tree yesterday, thanks to your generosity.

The News-Herald will continue to accept Cheer Fund donations well into January. Toys are ordered as early as May, so donations are needed to fund the 2004 program.

It’s been several years since the Cheer Fund reached its goal, and with charities throughout the country experiencing declining support, it was with no little bit of trepidation that we kicked off this year’s fund drive. But your generosity has been overwhelming and now that we are so close, it would be a shame to fall short. The need will still be here next year.

So as you’re standing in refund lines today and next week, please remember the Cheer Fund and thanks for your support.
