Katherine P. Beneke

Katherine Pond Beneke, 60, of the 700 block of North Broad Street, Suffolk, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003.

Born in Suffolk, Mrs. Beneke was a graduate of Peace College, Raleigh, N.C. and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

She was a member of West End Baptist Church, and a former member of the Nansemond River Garden Club, the Nansemond-Suffolk Historical Society, Suffolk Art League and the Suffolk Book Club.

She is survived by her husband, John Peter Beneke II; two sons, Charles Claus Beneke II, and his wife, Sarah Watts Beneke, of Akron, Ohio, and John Peter Beneke III of Norfolk; two grandchildren, Caleb Watts Beneke and Grace Katherine Beneke; a twin brother, Wayland Thomas Pond III, and his wife, Kathryn A. Pond; two sisters, Mary Lawrence P. Harrell, and her husband, John C. Harrell, all of Suffolk, and Eliza P. Rainey, and her husband, James E. Rainey, of Franklin.

The Rev. T. Floyd Irby and the Rev. Dr. Donald J. Dunlap will hold a memorial service at West End Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends at their home from 2 to 5 p.m.
