Samuel &uot;Sherk&uot; Artis Jr., 60, of 100 Dover Court, Apt. 700, Suffolk, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, in the Medical College of Virginia.

He had retired from Ponds Peanuts.

He was a member of the Muslim faith.

Survivors include three daughters, Monnick Artis of Charlotte, N.C.; Sherkia Warren and Keszie Warren, both of Suffolk; devoted aunts, Rosa Mae Artis of Suffolk, and Frances Robinson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Evelyn Doyles and Bertha Courtnay of Brooklyn; two brothers, McKinley Artis of New Jersey, and Nathaniel Artis of Brooklyn; nine grandchildren; and several other relatives and friends.

The funeral will be held at noon Monday in Harris Funeral Home Chapel, 685 Carolina Road, Suffolk, by the Rev. Vernon Artis. Burial will be in Jones Grove Church Cemetery.

The family will assemble at 11:45 a.m. Monday at the funeral home for the procession.
