&uot;Crime Line&uot; has proven again that it is a useful tool of communication with the telephone line serving as a perfect link between citizens of Suffolk and the law. All it took was a telephone call to Crime Line of Suffolk, 539-1222, to get the police department’s &uot;Most Wanted&uot; man behind bars.

Brandon Lee Turner, 24, of Everetts Road, had avoided capture since July when nine warrants for his arrest were issued by Suffolk Police. Turner was listed in the News-Herald’s Crime Line Wanted stories in July and August 2003, and several other times. His information was as follows; last known address at 6573 Everetts Road; a DOB of 1/3/80; a black male; 5 feet 11 inches tall; 250 pounds; wanted on charges of assault and battery, abduction, carjacking and driving on a suspended license.

Turner turned himself in at the magistrate’s office, said Police Lieutenant Debbie J. George. Warrants for his arrest included felony charges on carjacking, abduction, assault and battery, domestic assault, contempt of court, armed breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony, two failures to appear, and driving on a suspended operator’s license.

The lieutenant credits a Crime Line caller with Turner’s surrender. That caller provided detectives with information on the suspect’s whereabouts. That type of information is important in any investigation by police.

&uot;Crime Line has proven to be an important tool in locating wanted subjects, solving crimes and assisting police in Suffolk,&uot; said George. &uot;The police cannot be everywhere, all the time. It’s through cooperation between police, the news media, and our citizens that we are able to combine efforts in our community’s fight against crime.&uot;

The woman allegedly abducted by Turner, name withheld at her request, expressed great relief when she learned that he’d turned himself in to police.

&uot;He would stay at his grandmother’s home on Everetts Road and we knew he was there, but when police arrived he would be gone,&uot; said the victim. &uot;He is in jail now, and I don’t want him to get out and be free man again. This is what I’m scared of.&uot;

Turner is being held without bond in Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
