Mrs. Naomi Lawrence, 95, of 141 Walnut St., Suffolk, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, in Obici Hospital. A native of North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Isaac Jefferson and Roxie Sweat Jefferson, and the widow of Jesse Lawrence.

She had retired from J.C. Penny Co.

She was a member of Poplar Run Baptist Church where she served on the Deaconess Board, the Pastor’s Aide, Missionary Circle, Sunday School, and was a former member of the Senior Choir. She was also a member of the Household of Ruth Lodge.

She is survived by nine nieces, including three devoted ones, Mrs. Hester Windsor and Mrs. Elnora Biggs, both of Suffolk, and Ms. Clementine Bess of Chesapeake; five nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews; a goddaughter, Mary Naomi Marlins; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, in Poplar Run Baptist Church, by the Rev. James Williams. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The family will be at Crocker Funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
