Gertrude B. Crockett

Gertrude Castle Bridgforth Crockett, 88, of Hopewell, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004.

A native of Kenbridge, she was predeceased by her first husband of 30 years, George H. Bridgforth, and then also by her second husband of 20 years, Charles Crockett. She was a daughter of the late Samuel Jackson Castle and Nannie Almand Castle. She was also predeceased by five brothers and one sister.

She was a former co-owner and operator of &uot;The Washerette.&uot;

She was a member of First Christian Church.

She was survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth B. &uot;Susie&uot; and Phillip H. &uot;Jim&uot; Pearce of Suffolk; and Bertha Lee and Clarence C. Elliott of Colonial Heights, Va.; step-daughter, Leslie Crockett Spicer of Wilmington, N.C.; six grandchildren, James Pearce, Elizabeth Otlowski, Joseph Elliott, Lee Elliot, David Elliot, and Abigail Spicer; five great-grandchildren, and sister, Elizabeth C. Gary of Kenbridge.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, in First Christian Church, 203 N. 11th Ave., Hopewell, with the Rev. Robert W. Lane and the Rev. Deborah Harris officiating. Burial will be private.

Friends may join the family for further time of fellowship and refreshments following the service. Contributions may be made to the First Christian Church or the Kenbridge Christian Church.
