One hospitalized after car accident

A two-car accident on Route 58 about six miles west of Suffolk sent one man to Obici Hospital and slightly injured an eight-year-old boy. William Ashley of Franklin Street was listed in &uot;good&uot; condition with fractured ribs and abrasions of the elbow and knee. James Alston, eight, was treated for head lacerations and released. Alston lives with Rochelle Boone, who was driving the car when it hit Ashley’s. State Trooper Chuck Bailey said that about $600 worth of damage resulted from the crash.

1958 Obici Nursing class to hold capping

The 20 student nurses representing the Louise Obici Memorial Hospital Nursing School Class of 1958 will hold their capping services on Monday in the Oxford Methodist Church. The Rev. A.W. Lane will give the invocation, and educational director Helen Foster will perform the capping. The ceremony’s hymn will be &uot;I’ll Walk with God.&uot; A reception will take place following the ceremony at the Nurse’s Residence.

Harrell’s funeral services are Saturday

Funeral services for Walter Clem Harrell, a prominent farmer of the Box Elder community of Nansemond County, who died unexpectedly yesterday at his home, will be conducted Saturday at the I.O. Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. James Coney, pastor of the Box Elder Friends Church, and Charles Hutchinson, supply pastor of Antioch Christian Church. Burial will be in the Antioch Christian Church, near Windsor. Harrell was a member of the Gatesville Methodist Church.

Windsor High School to form band

The Windsor Ruritan Club has decided to work with the Windsor Women’s Club and the local PTA in organizing a school band at Windsor High School. Ruritan president M.G. Eley asked Rufus Darden to appoint three members from the School and Public Welfare Committee to meet with the two other groups on the project.

Holland PTA to take on students on the court

The Holland PTA met Tuesday in the high school auditorium to plan to take on the students in basketball. A boys and girls game will be played. All PTA members who had previously played basketball were asked to sign up for the game. Proceeds will go toward playground equipment.

Edward Felton announced a Cub Scout pack will be started in Holland under the sponsorship of the Ruritan Club. In celebration of Founder’s Day, ice cream and a birthday cake were served.
