Lizzie Lyons Allen, daughter of the late Robert Lyons and Lear H. Lyons, was born on July 8, 1911, in Nansemond County. She entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Feb. 21, at Maplewood Drive Family Care Home for the Elderly in Durham, N.C.
She attended Mount Zion School.
She had retired from Planter’s Nut and Chocolate Co. after 20 years of service.
She was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost at a very early age. She was a member of St. Mary’s COGIC, Suffolk, where she served faithfully.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Allen, their only daughter, Dora Lee Allen Thompson, two grandsons, Robert and George Thompson; and one great-granddaughter, Saundra V. Patterson.
Survivors include her granddaughter, Doretha Allen Thompson of Durham; 10 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren, three great-great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, in St. Mary’s COGIC, with Elder Dwight Nixon officiating. Interment will follow in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday in Wyatt & Sons Funeral Home.
The body will be taken to the church at 11:30 a.m. the day of the service. Family and friends will assemble at noon at 3702 Nansemond Parkway, Suffolk, for the procession.
