Carey L. Boone Sr., 81, of 803 Adams Street, died Feb. 29, 2004, in Obici Memorial Hospital. A native of North Carolina, he was the son of the late Henry and Maggie Valentine Boone and the widower of Virginia C. Boone.

He earned a BS degree in industrial education from St. Paul’s College and completed further studies at New York University. He was retired Director of Public Safety for the Naval Supply Center. He was a member of East End Baptist Church where he was a Deacon Emeritus, former Sunday school teacher, member of the senior choir, Partner in Education Committee, and various other committees of the church. He was a member of the Epsilon Iota Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., the Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation, and the NAACP. He also served on the Suffolk Industrial Development Authority.

He is survived by two daughters, Burnette Boone and Jacqueline Boone, both of Suffolk; one son, Carey Boone Jr. and his wife, Bessie; a granddaughter, Lovetta Boone Hawkins; a great grandchild, R. Jane Hawkins, and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, 2004, in East End Baptist Church by Dr. Mark A. Croston. Internment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Omega services for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity will be accorded Tuesday at 7 p.m., Crocker Funeral Home.
