Erma L. Herndon

On Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, our loved one, Mrs. Erma Lee Herndon, departed this life.

A native of Nansemond County, she was the second eldest of six children born to the late Johnnie and Daisy Johnson.

She was known as &uot;Pinkie,&uot; and was a strong, loving and caring mother and grandmother.

She was married to the late Andrew A. Herndon.

She joined Little Mt. Zion Baptist Church at an early age and accepted Jesus Christ as her savior.

She served as a member of the usher board, as Pastor’s Aide, and was the mother of the church.

She had retired from Planters and domestic work.

She leaves to mourn two sons, Joe L. Whitaker and Sidney L. Herndon of Syracuse, N.Y.; two daughters, Thelma D. Reed of Alexandria, and Regena Herndon-Filler of Newport News; two sons-in-law, Jerome Reed of Alexandria, and Stanley E. Fuller of Newport News; two daughters-in-law, Laura Whitaker and Calvenia Herndon of Syracuse; four brothers-in-law, Edward Herndon, John W. Hood, Lonnie J. Jacobs, all of Suffolk; and Rufus Wilson of Jamaica, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Lena Herndon of Suffolk; friend, Rosie Huffman of Syracuse; 30 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

The funeral will be held at noon Thursday in Little Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Franklin Williams officiating. Interment will be in the Little Mt. Zion Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. in Crocker Funeral Home.
