Gator Patterson named top eight-year-old at swim meet

Suffolk Gator Matthew Peterson was named the top swimmer of the 7-8 Boys age group after burning to first place finishes in the 25- and 50-freestyle at the Virginia Community Swimming League championships on April 1 at the Huntersville YMCA in Norfolk.

The Suffolk squad finished third out of six teams in the meet, and finishes its regular season at 4 p.m. today at the Hampton YMCA.

Other Suffolk competitors included Taylor Berard (6U girls, 4th in 25-freestle and 25-backstroke), Samantha Barbour (7-8 girls, 3rd in 25-freestyle and 25-backstroke, second in 50-freestyle), Elizabeth Wallace (7-8 girls, 1st in 25-backstroke, 4th in 25- and 50-freestyle), Lauren Garwood (9-10 girls, 4th in 100-freestyle), Jamie Iiams (11-12 girls, 2nd in 50-breastroke, 4th in 50- and 100-freestyle), David Foreman (6U boys, 2nd in 25-freestyle and 25-backstroke), and. Chase Rice (11-12 boys, 3rd in 50- and 100-freestyle, 4th in 50-backstroke).

The team will compete at the YMCA All-Star swim meet April 24 at the Portsmouth YMCA.
