Hedrick aces Cavaliers through 3-2 upset win

Robert Hedrick struck out seven in a complete-game, seven-strikeout performance as Lakeland bounced back from a tough loss to Oscar Smith to surprise host Western Branch 3-2 on Thursday night. Bryan Bess singled in Steve Morean in the top of the seventh to clinch the win for the Cavaliers, who will host Great Bridge on Tuesday.
The Lakeland softball team, which fell to the Lady Bruins Thursday, will also host the Lady Wildcats Tuesday.
Rain holds SMS season off for a week
Due to inclement weather, Southampton Motor Speedway canceled Friday night racing activities, pushing its 2004 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series season opener back a week. The track will make another attempt to launch its new campaign on April 9, with a six-race card.
The feature lineup includes: Late Model Stock Cars (75 laps); Mike Duman Auto Sales Limited Late Models (75 laps); Racecom of Virginia Super Streets (50 laps); Gontarek Family Eye Care U-Cars (25 laps); INEX Little Race Cars Legends (25 laps); and, Scale Racing League Arena-Cup cars (25 laps).
