Rain fell Sunday on Easter bonnets and baskets, and the ground was far too soggy for hunting eggs. But that’s not all.

The National Weather Service office in Wakefield offered some sage advice Monday morning: &uot;Get used to rain, as more is on the way.&uot;

Forecasters added that they are uncertain just how much we could get, but they did say it could be &uot;soaking&uot; with one to three inches in the next few days.

There is one bright note in all this – we need the rain. According to meteorologists, as of Monday rainfall at the National Weather Service data station at Norfolk International Airport is only a few drops over 6 inches. That’s less than half of the usual amount in Hampton Roads by this time of year. According to historical averages, the region should already have received 12.64 inches of rain.

Today there is a high possibility that Suffolk will see thunderstorms as a cold front pushes eastward, colliding with the warm, moist air over the region.

We should get a brief respite by Wednesday when the sun is expected to break through the clouds. Don’t get too hopeful, though, because another storm system is expected, bringing a chance for more clouds and (yuk!) more showers, the weather service said.

Still, Wakefield officials added, by Friday, the skies will brighten just in time for the weekend. For now, they say, we can at least look forward to beautiful sunny skies and temperatures rising into the 70s then.
