More than 80 family members and friends gathered last weekend to help Frances and Bud Taylor celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary.

The couple was married on March 31, 1945.

The party was held April 11 at the Holiday Inn – Suffolk. The ballroom was decorated with ivory, gold and silver balloons, with two gigantic gold balloons displaying the numeral &uot;59&uot; on the wall.

The &uot;bride&uot; wore a two-piece white dress with a corsage and a tiara in her hair. The &uot;groom&uot; wore a black tuxedo, topped off with a bow tie and boutonniere.

Greetings were given by the Taylor’s grandchildren: Madeline Stokes, Taylor Sykes, Sterling Hinton, Jerelle Jones, and Jayden Jones. &uot;Remember When…&uot; accolades were presented by John Lewis.

Poems were read by the couple’s daughter, Shirley Johnson, and Sterling Hilton. Baritone Roland Wilson sang, &uot;One in a Million You.&uot;

Wilson and Johnson also sang &uot;Because He Lives&uot; as a duet, commemorating Easter and the fact that because God still lives, the Taylors can face whatever the future may bring.

Johnson and another daughter, Frances Hinton, took their parents on a comical stroll down memory lane and presented them with humorous gifts.

Disc jockey Benford Hunter provided music during and after dinner.

The Taylors are members of Faith Temple Apostolic Church on Wellons Street.
