Editor, the News-Herald:

I appreciate the opportunity to address you on behalf of the Suffolk Substitute Teachers Association, as well as all substitute teachers who serve the teachers and students of this city.

Our association was founded in 1991 to have a united voice for occasions such as this. Our membership is close to 190. I represent those individuals who provide such a necessary and vital service when regular teachers must be out of the classroom. We feel that we are professionals who are dedicated to maintaining the high standards of excellence in education in our city.

And now we need the support of each of the members of this board. As you study, plan, research and prepare the operating budget, kindly include $75 per day for substitute teachers.

S. Chris Jones for the Commonwealth of Virginia House of Delegates, made comments to me that he also agrees to requesting additional funding for K-12 and higher education in Virginia
