Jewel Rozena Horton, daughter of Evangeline Mitchell Barnes and the late Dennis Valentine, was born on May 27, 1953, in Norfolk. She departed this life Wednesday, April 21, 2004, in Obici Hospital.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ivan Horton, and two brothers, Dennis Valentine and Willie Valentine.

In addition to her mother, she leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Deisha Valentine of Suffolk, and Kelly Sims (Jimmy) of Illinois; one brother, Warnett Barnes; three sisters, Phyllis Seymour and Gloria Lee (Williams) of Suffolk; and Amy Jones of Portsmouth; four grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, in T.E. Cooke-Overton Funeral Home. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Viewing takes place from noon to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
