Yandle, Moyer give Lady Warriors 1-0 victory

Katelyn Yandle knocked in an assist from Hannah Moyer with less than a minute left in the first half Tuesday as Nansemond River defeated visiting Western Branch 1-0. The game was called after halftime because of rain. The girls host Hickory tonight, while the boys head to Chesapeake.

Lakeland went 0-2 against Indian River in soccer Tuesday, with the Lady Cavaliers falling 5-0 and the Cavaliers losing 4-1. Justin Schleeper scored the only goal on an assist from Aaron Stacy. The Cavaliers face Great Bridge tonight, with the boys staying home and the girls heading out.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s girls also play at home today, facing Hampton Roads Academy.

Grieder hurls in a pair in 15-4 loss

Parris Grieder had two goals and Rachel Byers and Courtney White one each in Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s 15-4 loss to host Norfolk Academy on Tuesday. The Lady Saints head to Virginia Beach today.

Saints feel Bulldogs’ bite in tennis, 9-0

The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy tennis team was swept at home Wednesday, falling 9-0 to Norfolk Academy. The Saints will battle Hampton Roads Academy today.

Cultural Arts golf tourney scheduled for May 1 at SGC

A golf tournament to benefit the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts will be held May 1 at the Suffolk Golf Course. Entry fee is $50, and the first 60 golfers will be admitted. The winning foursome will receive a free game at the Bay Creek on the Eastern Shore. A hole-in-one on the ninth hole will win a 2004 Ford, and other prizes will be awarded. Tee-off times will range from 11:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Field Hockey camp opens June 21

The N2 Stix Field Hockey Camp will hold its first camp of the 2004 season on June 21-25, and its second on June 28- July 1. The camp teaches basic rules and fundamentals, defensive strategies, offensive strategies, conditioning, game situations, small games, individual and group competitions, and skills contests. It will be held at Lakeland High School.

The rate for Session 1 is $100, and Session 2 rate is $80. Signup date is May 1, and is open to girls age 7-17.
