Virginia D. Sheffield

Virginia Duke Sheffield, 92, of 300 Elizabeth St., Suffolk, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, in Tandem Health Care of Windsor.

A native of Suffolk, she was the widow of C. Jack Sheffield. She was also a daughter of the late Harvey C. Duke Sr. and Mary Carr Duke and was predeceased by a sister, Mary Louise Hines and two brothers, Harvey C. Duke Jr. and Garland E. Duke.

She had retired after 28 years of service as a clerk stenographer with the Virginia Department of Transportation.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Adult No. 7 Golden Age Sunday School Class, and was class treasurer.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Polly S. and Emmitt B. Riddick of Suffolk; two grandchildren, Robin R. Blanchard, and husband, Randell, and Andrew T. Riddick, and wife, Heidi, all of Suffolk; two great-grandchildren, Bailey G. Riddick and Peyton S. Riddick, both of Suffolk; and a sister, Catherine D. Howell of Suffolk.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, in the Sidney F. Harrell Chapel of the Harrell & Hill Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Vaughan officiating. Interment will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may join the family at the residence at 300 Elizabeth St.
