Joe Almon

Joe Almon, 87, of 1605 Freeney Ave., Suffolk, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, in Obici Hospital.

A native of Gibson, N.C., he was the son of the late Burke and Alice Quick Almon. He was also preceded in death by a daughter Kathleen Banks, and a son, Joe Almon Jr.

He retired as a mechanic from John Deere Farm Equipment Co.

He was a member of St. Timothy Baptist Church where he served on the Trustee Board.

He is survived by his wife, Vengola Almon; two sons, Howard Almond of Chesterfield, and Raymond (Ernestine) Almond of Chesapeake; a stepson, Jerry Sr. (Loraine) Jones of Warrenton; a sister, Rosa Anna Cureton of Laurinburg, N.C.; 15 grandchildren, including a devoted granddaughter, Dr. Carla Jones; 14 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in St. Timothy Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Thomas Harden Jr. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
