Joseph A. Hood

Joseph A. Hood, 65, of 304 Lakeside St., Suffolk, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, in Maryview Medical Center.

A native of Six, W.Va., he was the son of the late David A. Hood and Flossie E. Tedder Hood. He was also predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.

He was an engineer for Virginia Natural Gas.

He was a ballroom dance instructor, active in the March Of Dimes drives through Virginia Natural Gas, and was a member of the Suffolk Golf Association.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran with 22 years of service and served in Vietnam.

Survivors include his wife, June Rountree Hood; a daughter and son-in-law, Francesca H. Nelson and husband, Thomas, of Martinsville; son, Joseph S. Hood of Syracuse, N.Y.; step-daughter, Edith Matthews, and husband, Michael, of Suffolk; step sons, Gene K. Rountree and Chuck R. Rountree, and wife, Betty, all of Suffolk. sisters, Hazel H. Griffith of Moyock, N.C., and Glenna H. Ackerman of Martinsville; and brothers, John A. Hood, and wife, Laurie of Syracuse, and Sammy Hood and wife, Hattie, of Coaldale, W. Va.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Suffolk Christian Church with the Rev. Michael Halley officiating. Interment will be in Holly lawn Cemetery with military honors.

Friends may join the family at the residence.
