John W. Salmon

John Woodrow Salmon, 90, of Suffolk, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004.

A native of Gates County, N.C., he was the widower of Daisy Rose Salmon, and a son of the late Della Mae F. and John Henry Salmon.

He had retired after 22 years as a painter for Parker Wilkins.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, and was also a member of the Woodmen of the World and Pythians Lodge No. 50.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp. after serving in WWII as a sergeant.

He is survived by sisters and brother-in-law, Margaret Salmon Whitfield and Ruby S. and Arthur M. Warren, all of Suffolk; brother and sister-in-law, Jack Owen Salmon Sr. and Virginia B. Salmon of Portsmouth; numerous nieces and nephews; step-daughter, Virginia A. Allen of Wauchuca, Fla.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Parr Funeral Home with the Rev. Jonathan Palmer officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home, and other times at the residence of Ruby S. Warren at 305 Westgate Ave., Suffolk.
