Bryan Ashburn ready to catch college

Bryan Ashburn, who made All-South-eastern District honors playing catcher at Lakeland last season, has announced his plans to attend North Carolina Wesleyan in the fall.

&uot;I got some academic money from them,&uot; he said of the Rocky Mount school. &uot;I’d like to be a physical education teacher, and coach baseball or golf.&uot; Ashburn also made All-District on the courses this year.

Junior tennis camp to be held at Mast Tennis Complex

The Howard Mast Tennis Complex will be holding Suffolk’s first Junior Tennis Camp from June 27 to July 3. Male and female players ages 12 to 18 will be accepted. It will consist of a five-hour oncourt routine of live drills and feed drills with special attention to grips, strokes, footwork and techniques, all intermeshed with lectures on attitude, and court manners on and off the court.

The program will begin at 9 a.m. June 28 and end at 3 p.m. July 3.

The camp director is Howard Mast, who has 50 years tennis experience.
