Gladys E. Artis of 221 Jackson St., Suffolk, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, in Autumn Care of Suffolk. She was a native of Nansemond County and daughter of the late Prince and Lottie Francis Ash and the widow of Harry C. Artis Sr.

She is survived by one daughter, Mable Roberts, and her husband, Thomas, of Suffolk; one son, Alphonzo Artis of Philadelphia, Pa.; one brother, George Young, and his wife, Margaret of Suffolk, 30 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Crocker Funeral Home by Dr. Carlton Upton of Tabernacle Christian Church. Interment will be in Laurel Hill Church Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Rose Mary Riddick, 230 Pinner St., Suffolk.
