Brenda Knight expected to be out of a job this week.

But the city employee, who last month was advised that her job had been eliminated in the 2004-2005 operating budget, will report to her new position on Monday as a clerk typist with the Department of Parks and Recreation. She formerly worked as an engineering aid in the public works department.

Knight would have been the only employee whose position was axed from the city’s 2004-2005 operating budget. The $280 million budget included funding for 34 new positions, mostly public safety officers, said Dennis Craff, spokesman for the city.

In December 2003, Knight, a former legal assistant for the city, accused City Attorney Edward C. Roettger, her boss at the time, with misconduct. After an outside investigation last spring, the City Council cleared Roettger of any wrongdoing.

Knight was later transferred to the public works department, where she worked until Wednesday.

Knight said Friday that she had to apply and interview for the new position, the same as any other applicant.
