Jenkins cleared of assault charge

Clinton Jenkins, a former candidate for the heated Suffolk Circuit Court Clerk’s race, has been cleared of all charges in connection with an alleged assault on a family member.

A Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court hearing in June found Jenkins not guilty of domestic assault and one count of assault by threat, based on court records. Judge Alfreda Harris dismissed all charges on June 17.

Suffolk Police Detective G.D. Myrick issued a warrant for Jenkins’ arrest on Jan. 23 regarding a complaint of assault and battery involving a household member. According to a prepared statement issued by Jenkins to the News-Herald, the court hearing &uot;revealed that Mr. Jenkins’ family member did not file the assault charge.&uot;

In the release, Jenkins also noted that he was separated from his family for more than &uot;30 consecutive days.&uot;

Jenkins declined to elaborate on the case.
