A child was killed around noon Monday when her family’s van collided with a logging truck on Everets Road in Isle of Wight County.

Taylor Dale, 7, of Zuni died instantly in the accident about two miles from Suffolk city line, said state trooper C.K. Fleming.

Her father, Gavin Andrew Dale, 33, the driver of the 1994 Ford van, was admitted to Obici Hospital with injuries. Passengers in the van, including the child’s mother, Sharon Dale, 32; the couple’s 9-year-old son; and a 16-year-old family friend, were all taken to Obici.

The collision occurred when Dale veered over the left side of the yellow line as he drove into a curve, striking the front side of a tractor trailer coming from the opposite direction.

The truck’s driver, John Lee Butts, 68, of Courtland, ran off the right side of the road in an attempt to miss the van, Fleming said.

Butts was not injured.

No charges have been filed, Fleming added.
