&uot;YEEARRRGH!&uot;

Perhaps rumbling such a sound from her throat at every swing of her bat gave Angie Logwood some extra power at the plate Wednesday during Bennett’s Creek Women’s Softball League action at Driver Elementary School, as she blasted three homers, helping the aptly-named Kaboom to a 21-9 victory over RIP and 15-13 win over Angels Poison.

&uot;Whenever I don’t grunt, it doesn’t go far,&uot; said Logwood, who’d hit only one homer leading up to Wednesday. &uot;I knock the wind out of myself.&uot; Her squad knocked the life out of RIP early. Kristin Everette also smashed a homer, and Logwood and Betsy Laster scored three runs each.

Poison opened the day with a 23-5 victory over Big Wood. Alex Butler blasted two homers, and Martina Campbell, Patti Whitley, Catherine Butler and Erica Murrell homered as well.

Campbell singled to open the Kaboom game, and Murrell singled to left field. Catherine batted them home for a 2-0 lead, but Laster cut the lead in half in the second, and Kaboom started living up to its name in the third. Lori Outlaw opened with a single, and Everette knocked her in. Sarah Blythe tripled Everette home, and scored on a single by Logwood. Laster and Shelly Wall drove in three more runs, and the lead was 7-2.

Campbell, Karen Smith and Murrell loaded the bases without an out in the bottom of the third, and Campbell scored on a sacrifice fly by Alex. Catherine flew out to score Smith, and Whitley hammered a double off the centerfield fence to knock home Murrell.

The lead was down to two, but Logwood struck in the fourth, whacking a three-run shot over the left field fence. Laster and Wall followed her up with singles, and Jodi Bowman hit a triple to deep left to score them. Butler scored on a double by Robin Starling to go up, 13-5.

Heather Moody scored for Poison in the fourth and Alex in the fifth, but Logwood led off the sixth with her third round-tripper, and Starling later drove home Wall. But the Poison still had one last breath, and they very nearly took back the contest.

Smith batted in Melinda Knill in the sixth, and Kaboom was held scoreless in the seventh. Then Alex, Catherine and Whitley whaled the first three pitches of the seventh over the fence, knocking the lead down to 15-11.

Keri Carlsen singled, but the next batter flew out. Heather Moody moved Carlsen to third with a double, and Carlsen scored when Berry Rogers flied out. Moody scored on an infield single by Knill, but Logwood snared a Campbell fly ball in center to end the game.

&uot;That was too close!&uot; she said. &uot;We needed a bigger cushion. But I wasn’t worried. I always play better when I’m not so worried and just having fun.&uot;

In the other late game, Christy Johnson hit her first homer of the season to help RIP to a 19-15 win over Big Wood.
