After neighbors videotaped their

toddler playing with a handgun, two Suffolk parents spent the night in the Western Tidewater Regional Jail.

Local television broadcasts repeatedly showed footage on Thursday of the 3-year-old Holland boy playing with a handgun outside the home.

Robert James Allen, 43, and Joni Maxine Allen, 42, were arrested late Thursday at their residence in the 1300 block of Glen Haven Drive, said Lt. Debbie George, spokeswoman for the Suffolk Police Department. They were charged with felony child neglect.

A jail spokesman reported that the couple was released from jail Friday morning, each on $2,000 bond.

Detective C. M. Gonzalez is continuing to investigate the incident.
