A grand jury on Monday handed down 15 felony indictments, including attempted capital murder, against the man who in May led police on a multi-city, high-speed chase into Suffolk.

Besides the attempted murder charge, William Elton Gray, 33, of Virginia Beach was indicted on four counts of attempted malicious wounding, one count of malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer, four counts of felony hit and run, four counts of felony destruction to state property, and one felony count of eluding police.

He will be arraigned in Suffolk Circuit Court on Aug. 4.

Earlier this month in General District Court, Gray was found guilty of one misdemeanor count of hit and run and one misdemeanor count of destruction to state property.

He received 12 months – with six suspended – for each conviction.

Gray, who has related charges in Portsmouth, is being held without bond in the Western Tidewater Regional Jail.

On May 28, Gray led police into Suffolk via Route 58, at times reaching speeds upwards of 80 miles per hour in his Chevy SUV. During the pursuit, he struck four state police cruisers and sent Trooper K.C. Kaufman to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries. Three other state police officers were treated for minor injuries at the scene.
