WINDSOR-Ruth Irene Carr Mays, 80, died August 4, 2004, in Obici Hospital. She was the wife of the late Willie Edward Mays, Sr. A homemaker; she was born in Nansemond County, Va to the late Joshua and Ruth Carr.

She will be sadly missed by her daughters and their husbands, Elizabeth and Elvin Thomas of Franklin, V A., Hazel M. Connell of Williamston, NC., Virginia M. Hendricks of Virginia Beach, Nancy M. Chaney of Portsmouth, Mary Catherine M. and Chen Yen Jr. of Spring, TX., and Margaret M. and Ken Boswell of Waverly; a son, Richard Lee Mays of Windsor; brothers, James Carr, Bobby Carr, Miles Carr, Shirley Lee Carr, and Douglas Carr, one sister, Daisy C. Pope, all of Suffolk, and son-in law, Alton Eure also of Windsor; 23 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 7, 2004, 2 p.m. in The Sidney F. Harrell Chapel of Harrell & Hill Funeral Home, with Pastor Kathy Peaks officiating. Burial will follow in the Western Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7-8 pm at the funeral home and other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Elvin Thomas, 21385 Bethel Rd., Franklin, VA.
