Margaret Riley Palmer

Margaret Riley Palmer, 78, of Suffolk, passed away on August 14, 2004. Born in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert Wals and Bessie McCormick Riley. Mrs. Palmer was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband of 28 years, Harry Thomas Palmer, Sr., of Suffolk; daughters, Peggy J. Wentz of Brandon, Miss.; Bonnie J. Porter, of Suffolk; and Cheryl J. O’Conner, of Herndon; a son, Curtis I. Jordan, Jr., of Brandon, Miss.; stepchildren, Susan P. white, Sharon P. Morgan and Harry T. Palmer Jr.; 8 grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at 1 p.m. at Parr Funeral. Rev. Roger Johnson. Interment will be held at the Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens in Suffolk. Friends may join the family Tuesday night from 7-8 p.m. and other times at the residence.

Melva Babb Sexton

Melva Babb Sexton, 76, of the 900 block of Carolina Road, passed away on August 14, 2004 at Obici Hospital.

Born in Zuni to the late Linwood and Susie Joyner, she had retired from A & P Produce after more than 20 years of loyal service. She was a devoted member of Liberty Baptist Church.

She will be sadly missed by her loving children, Juanita V. Parker of Suffolk, Phyllis U. Clements of Woodbridge; Edward L. Uzzell and Barry L. Sexton, also of Suffolk; six grandchildren, Tammy, Terry, Brian, Shannon, Paul and Chrissy; great-grandchildren, David Jr., Chelsea, Kayla, Abby, Emily, Austin, Brittany, Cody and Autumn; stepchildren, Teddy, Patricia and Diane Sexton and step-grandchildren, Brian, April, Corey and Timmy. Her daughter, Nancy C. Crawford, predeceased her.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the Sidney F. Harrell Chapel of Harrell and Hill Funeral Home by Pastor T. A. Powell. Burial will follow in the Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

Shirley White

Early Sunday morning God dispatched his loving Angels and called home our beloved mother, sister, niece, and friend Shirley White. Shirley was born on February 27, 1961 to the late Roy Lee Wiggins, Sr. and Elnor Wiggins.

Shirley was educated in Suffolk Public Schools. She had a strong interest for learning, as well as she was an outgoing people’s person.

Shirley leaves to mourn her death and cherish her memory: two sons Thomas and Antonio White, brother John Thomas Wiggins, aunt Evoria Hagins and Ethel Mae Collington, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 1p.m. Wednesday, August 18, in T.E. Cooke-Overton Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Viewing will take place from noon-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family will assemble for the funeral procession 12 Noon Tuesday at 913 Railroad Ave.

The family will receive friends at all other times at the residence.
