VIRGINIA BEACH-Mary A. (Liptak) Connelly, 58, born June 18, 1946 in Elizabeth, N.J., found peace Aug. 12, 2004, after a long courageous battle with cancer. In her many years in Virginia Beach, she was always ready to help those in need. She attended Paul D. Camp Community College in Suffolk. Through the years, Mary worked with Perkins General Construction, Main Street’s Restaurant in Suffolk, All Tune & Lube, and most recently Dollar General in Virginia Beach.

A memorial service will be Friday, Aug. 20, 2004 at 7 p.m. at Kellum Funeral Home, Bonney Road Chapel. Burial will be private.

Hattie Williams Turner, of 1893 Meadow Country Rd., Suffolk (Airport Road area), went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004. She was a member of the Healing Chapel Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess and on the Mother’s Board. She was a former member of the Fist Baptist Pleasant Hill Church where she served on the Usher Board, Deaconess Board, the Missionary Board and the Community Service Committee. Her survivors include her husband, Johnnie Turner of Suffolk; one daughter, Marjorie (David L.) Bullock of Suffolk; one son Tony R. (Joanne) Turner, also of Suffolk; one sister, Ethel Bryant of Robertsonville, N.C. and one brother, James (Pearl) Williams of Baltimore, Md.; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two adopted daughters Mrs. Eva Freeman and Mrs. Hilda Reid, both of Suffolk; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 21 at 1 p.m. at the Healing Chapel Baptist Church. Rev. R. Jordan will be officiating. Viewing will begin on Thursday, August 19, 2004 at Harris Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church for viewing at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 21, 2004. The family will assemble at 1893 Meadow Country Road at noon for the funeral procession. Burial will be at Meadowbrook Memorial Garden. Harris Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
