Irene Copeland Eason

Mrs. Irene Copeland Eason, 73, of 2620 Jackson Road, died Aug. 25, 2004 in Obici Hospital. She was a native of Nansemond County and a daughter of the late Amos Copeland Sr. and Threase Vick Copeland.

She was the widow of Thomas Eason. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Copeland Knight and Virgie Copeland Joe; and a brother, William Tom Copeland.

She received Christ at a very early age. She was a faithful member of St. Mark A.M.E. Zion for over 70 years, where she served on their usher board and missionary society. She was a 1949 graduate of East Suffolk High School and continued her education at Mounty Field Nursing School in New York City.

She leaves to cherish her memories two devoted daughters, Patrice B. Holloway and Belinda G. Holloway (Aron) of Suffolk; one brother, Amos Copeland Jr. of Suffolk; one devoted granddaughter, Shante T. Goodman; three sisters-in-law, Dorthy Green Copeland of Zuni, Alease Billups Friday of West Point, and Shirley Billups Parrott of Gaithersburg, Md.; one brother-in-law, John A. Joe of Suffolk; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held at St. Mark A.M.E. Zion on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. J. Maverick Smith. Interment will be held in the Eason Family Cemetery.

Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. is handling the arrangements.

Leslie H. Rawls III

Leslie Herman &uot;Chip&uot; Rawls III, 60, died Aug. 25, 2004, at his home.

Born on Oct. 11, 1943, in Suffolk, he was the son of the late Berniece Jones and Dr. Leslie Herman Rawls Jr. He graduated from Suffolk High School, attended Randolph-Macon College, graduated from Old Dominion University and did graduate work at Miami University of Ohio. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Mr. Rawls was a faithful employee of the Holiday Inn for many years.

Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Linda Rawls and Jim Culliton of Suffolk; an aunt, Mrs. Roy G. Klepser of Plymouth, MI; and a niece, Leslie Rawls Culliton, of Durham, N.C.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Cedar Hi1l Cemetery by the Rev. Leanna Fuller.

The family will receive friends at his sister’s home, 206 Military Road.
