Annie Arlease Ricks Perkins

Annie Ricks Perkins died Sept. 4, 2004 at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C. A native of Suffolk, she was the daughter of the late Leander and Annie Vann Ricks.
She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Virginia State University and master’s degree from Trinity College. She studied at the University of the District of Columbia, Norfolk State University and the College of William and Mary. She taught at the school systems of Suffolk and Washington, D.C. She also taught at the Governor Bacon Health Center in Delaware City, Del.; Janie-Porter School in Peaks. She joined Macedonia AME Church at a very early age where she was very active.
Ms. Perkins is survived by a son, Stephen Selwyn Perkins; three brothers, the Rev. John Ricks Sr. of Washington, D.C.; Stephen A. Ricks of Suffolk and Richard A. Ricks Sr. of Portsmouth; an adopted brother, the Rev. Richard Walker ; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law and friends.
Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at Macedonia A.M.E. Church by the Rev. Charles Harvin. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
The family will meet at her residence at 135 Church St.
