Brenda M. Gatling

Brenda M. Gatling, 51, of the 2100 block of Arizona Avenue, Suffolk died September 19, 2004 in Obici Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Nansemond County.

She was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School and cum laude graduate of Paul D. Camp community college. She was employed as a Medical Clerk at Western Tidewater Mental Health Center.

She was a member of Rising St. James Pentecostal Holiness Church where she was a church clerk, and member of the senior choir, gospel chorus, usher board, pastor’s aide, kitchen committee and chief cake maker.

She was also executive clerk for the Pentecostal Churches Worldwide.

She is survived by her husband Arnold Gatling Sr.; a stepdaughter, Valencia Blanketship (Cleo) of Portsmouth; three stepsons, Arnold Gatling Jr., Cordero Gatling, and Archie Gatling, all of Suffolk; godchild, Ashlyn Whitfield of Suffolk; parents Fletcher and Shirley Pugh III of Suffolk; six step grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Eldress Laura Timmons (Elder Archie Timmons) of Suffolk; one brother-in-law Ronald Gatling Sr. of Suffolk; one aunt Dorothy Wilkins of Suffolk; three uncles Leon Green (Yvonne) of Suffolk, Edward Green (Eunice) of Williamston, N.C., and David Green (Patricia) of Virginia Beach; devoted friend and mentor, Missionary Martha Mills of Suffolk; two nieces, two nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2004 at Rising St. James Pentecostal Holiness Churc. Bishop Dwight Whitfield is officiating. Interment will be in the Holly Lawn Cemetery.

The family will assemble at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher Pugh, 2117 Georgia Ave., Suffolk.
