Three Portsmouth men charged with robbing a man outside a downtown Suffolk convenience store Tuesday are being held in the Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
Police arrested Mark Pitre, 26,
James Saunders, 42, and Brandon Crocker, 25, around 8 p.m. Tuesday, approximately an hour after they reportedly held up Suffolk resident Breon Mayo at gunpoint, said Sgt. Michael McKenzie, spokesman for the Suffolk Police Department.
Each man is charged with robbery and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. Saunders also faces additional traffic charges in Suffolk, McKenzie said.
According to police, a gunman approached Mayo outside Southern Food Store, 600 E. Washington St., as he was purchasing gas and demanded his cash and jewelry. After taking the property, the suspect and two others fled in a red Ford Probe.
Officers stopped the car on Portsmouth Boulevard, near the city line, and apprehended the three suspects around 8 p.m., McKenzie said.
