Few if any students honored by the Pilot Club of Suffolk have ever been behind the controls of a plane. But they still fly higher than most.

They’ve gone above and beyond in academic achievements. They soar up the list of extracurricular activities. They rack up the points and accomplishments on the athletic fields of Suffolk’s high schools.

On Nov. 9 at Lakeland High, the students, chosen by faculty and staff from each respective school, were venerated in the &uot;Salute to Youth&uot; program. 10 students from Lakeland, King’s Fork and Nansemond-Suffolk Academy and nine from Nansemond River were given their accreditation.
