Saints win a few in swim losses

Brandon Wilder won two individual races and helped the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy boys swim team to two relay victories in the Saints’ 59-34 loss to Richmond Collegiate on Friday at the Suffolk YMCA. Wilder took first place in the 200-freestyle and 100-fly races, and took part in the 200-medley and 200-free relay wins. In girls action, the Lady Saints fell 71-23.
Wilder, Joey DiRenzo, Ryan Hanson and Phillip Brooks started off the meet by winning the medley race, and Wilder got the freestyle victory just afterward. DiRenzo finished second in 50-free action, and Wilder then won the fly contest.
Hanson finished second in the 100-free, and the foursome teamed up again to win their relay title. Hanson then got second in the 100-backstroke race.
In the women’s meet, Jade Bishop was the only Lady Saint to get a first-place finish, winning the 200-freestyle. Danielle Waller, Anna Cotton, Maggie Standing and Tiffany Buckley finished second in the 200-medley, and Standing got second in the 100-fly.
Bishop, Waller, Standing and Tess Smith finished second in the 200-free relay, and Cotton notched second in 100-breastroke action. Bishop, Standing, Smith and Kelly Ruland finished out the meet by getting second in the 400-free relay. The Saints will host Greenbrier Christian and Norfolk Collegiate on Friday.
