Zelma H. Jones

Zelma Hare Jones, 75, died Jan. 14, 2005, in Obici Hospital. Born May 1, 1929, in Chowan County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Gurney Clyde and Blanche Spruill Hare and widow of William L. &uot;Bill&uot; Jones. Mrs. Jones was predeceased in death by her sisters, Marie Kiser and Evelyn H. Umphlett; brothers, James T. Hare and Fermor C. Hare.
Mrs. Jones was a member of Western Branch Baptist Church, the Progressive Sunday School class and the Lipton Tea retirement group. She served as a machine operator at Lipton Tea for 30 years and six months.
Survivors included her sisters, Virginia Lee Klemm, Shirley H. Taylor, both of Virginia Beach; brothers Gurney C. Hare Jr., of Blue Springs, Mo., Johnnie Ray Hare of Virginia Beach and Ernest Vernon Hare of Windsor.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Jan. 17, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the graveside in the Western Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Ray O. Jones will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 604 Constance Woods Drive, Suffolk, Va. 23434. R. W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
