Lucy T. Ormsby

Lucy Trundle Ormsby, of the 200 block of Liberty Springs Road, passed away Feb. 8, 2005. She was a native of Montgomery County, Md., and a longtime resident of Chesapeake and Suffolk. She was the daughter of the late A. Dawson Trundle and Lucy Wright Trundle.
She is survived by her husband, Robert G. Ormsby of Suffolk; a daughter, Gwynne L. Ormsby, of West Chester; a son, Glenn D. Ormsby and wife Wendy of Smithfield; her sister, Katherine Ligon of El Cerrito, Ca.; her twin sister, Lula Trundle of Sandy Springs, Md.; her brother, James T. Trundle of Cherry Hill, N.J.; two grandchildren, Ty L. Ormsby of Suffolk and Amber G. Ormsby of Richmond.
Lucy was a graduate of the University of Maryland where she earned her bachelor’s degree in physical education. She worked for several years as the coach of the girl’s basketball team at Portsmouth Catholic High School.
An avid sports fan, as a young woman she refereed women’s basketball games. She was also active in the Girl Scouts of America with her daughter, Gwynne. Lucy’s interest and skill in gardening clubs and as a past president of the Portsmouth Council of Garden Clubs. In her later life she raised bantam chickens and showed them along the Atlantic Seaboard with her husband. She was a member of Virginia Beach Friends meeting.
