As the students of the Governor’s School for the Arts take the stage of the Harrison Opera House in Norfolk today and Sunday, Suffolk will have its own representative in the School’s performance of &uot;Die Fledermaus&uot; – King’s Fork senior Ashley Koncz.

The light-hearted Johann Strauss operetta tells the story of Gabriel von Eisenstein, who is about to start an eight-day prison sentence. Before heading off to his not-quite-life sentence, however, Eisenstein decided to head to a nearby party. Little does he know that upon his departure, his wife Rosalinda has a beau of her own to entertain. But through a hysterical mixup of costume discrepancy and mistaken identity, the wrong man goes to jail, and Rosalinda and her husband play a game of cat-and-mouse for the entire night.

&uot;We got the music at the beginning of the year,&uot; said Koncz, who plays Sally, the sister of the Eisenstein’s maid, Adele. &uot;She does comic relief.&uot;

A former Lakeland student, Koncz performed with the Governor’s School in past productions of &uot;Hansel and Gretel,&uot; &uot;The Magic Flute,&uot; and &uot;Marriage of Figaro.&uot;

&uot;It’s kind of sad to leave,&uot; she said, &uot;but I’m ready to get it over with and move on with my career.&uot;

The soprano hopes to attend Overland Conservatory in Ohio, and pursue a career in opera performance.

Performances will be tonight at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens. For more information, call 572-2526.
