William A. Epperson Sr.

William (Billy) Anderson Epperson, Sr., 68, of the 1500 block of Wilroy Road, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2005.
He was born in Suffolk on October 20, 1936 to the late Milton Scoggins and Marie Griggs Epperson.
He was predeceased by a brother, M. S. (Buddy) Epperson Jr. and a sister, Patricia Epperson Parker.
Mr. Epperson served in the U. S. Navy and worked as a refrigeration tech in the civil service at Little Creek Amp. Base. He was owner and operator of E & E Appliance Repair Service in Suffolk for over 30 years where he really enjoyed this work. He loved to help people.
He helped to organize and build the Cypress Little League Baseball Park where he loved to coach little league baseball and softball and did for many years, as well as play.
Mr. Epperson was a member of Cypress Chapel Congregational Christian Church where he served as deacon and usher for many years, custodian for 10 years which was a service he found very rewarding and what he loved most of all was teaching Sunday School.
Most recently he attended Magnolia United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School in the Savage Bible Class.
He enjoyed life with his wife, children, and his beloved grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Jenny Lee Redd Epperson; three sons, W. A. (Skip) Epperson Jr. and wife Mary Jo of Santa Cruz, Calif., Mark Allen Epperson and wife Susan of Suffolk, and Danny Lee Epperson of Norfolk; daughter, Jenny Lynn Epperson O’Brien and husband, Jim of Suffolk; nine grandchildren who loved their &uot;Papa&uot; dearly, Jesse and David Epperson, Shannon, Timothy and Meaghan O’Brien, all of Suffolk, Sara, Zachary, Anna-Katherine, and Genevieve &uot;Jenny&uot; Epperson all of Santa Cruz, Calif.; two aunts, Eloise Macjeweski of Maine and Barbara Griggs of Suffolk; uncle, Paul K. Brady of Suffolk; sister-in-law, Jean M. Epperson of Suffolk; several cousins, two special ones, Nephi Griggs of Suffolk and Kitty Cottle Parham of Hopewell;
two nephews, Ray Parker of Sedley, and M. S. &uot;Flip&uot; Epperson of Suffolk; four nieces, Theresa P. Jernigan of Sedley, Nancy P. Tomlin of North Carolina, Debra E. Parker and Sharon E. Williams of Suffolk; and his faithful canine companion, &uot;Lilly&uot;.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday March 9, 2005 at the Cypress Chapel Congregational Christian Church by Dr. Willis Dowling, Rev. Mike Derflinger and Dr. John Kimball. The burial will be in the church cemetery.
The
family will receive friends at Harrell & Hill Funeral Home today from 7 to 8 p.m. and other times at the residence.
