Suffolk police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that occurred late last night and are asking for assistance from the public.

Police say that at approximately 11:04 p.m. Tuesday, Walter Vann Jr., 68, of the 700 block of Turlington Road, was walking near his home when he was struck by a west-bound vehicle, which failed to stop.

Vann was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where his condition is listed as fair.

Police advise that the vehicle is a light-colored van.
